Effectively Disclosing Your Accommodations to Professors

How To Best Disclose Your Accommodations to Professors

As early in the semester as possible, you must PERSONALLY request a new letter of accommodation from the ARC homepage or at utd.link/aim.

The letter should go to your professor’s UTD email account, and you will be sent a copy after a short delay.

It’s ESSENTIAL for you to follow up with professors to make sure they actually read the email and understand how to accommodate.

The most effective way to follow up includes these steps:

Print out a hard copy of the letter for each class, DO NOT just try to follow up by email.

Make sure you read over the letter and ask the ARC if anything is missing or unclear.

Present the hard copy to professors the letter to the professor during their OFFICE HOURS ONLY, not right before, during or after class.

Take time to go over accommodations that require professor input especially these three as applicable:

For tests takers outside the ARC, ask if the tests can be in a room the professor provides, online or at the UTD Testing Center at Synergy Park.

If you have it on your letter, be sure to complete the attendance accommodation understanding form.

Will notetaking accommodations be provided by the professor, technology, or a volunteer?

Afterwards, email professors summarizing how you both agreed to provide the accommodations and thank them for their time.

If you have any questions or concerns after the meeting, let the ARC know immediately.
