Ron Venable’s career working with students who have disabilities began with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission (now part of the Texas Workforce Commission) as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in 2000. In this position, he provided transition counseling for people with disabilities, job placement and eligibility determination for services.

Venable’s caseload was primarily comprised of college students from the University of Texas at Arlington and the Tarrant County College District. He gained experience working with a wide range of physical disabilities, but the majority of his work was with Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder.

He continued working in an administrative role in disability service offices for colleges and universities in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, California and San Antonio for 18 years before joining UTD in 2018.

He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Baylor University in 1995 and a master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1999.
